AlphaRet Professional Peel pre and post care instructions at Elite Skin and Body Care Houston

The Skinbetter Science® AlphaRet® Professional Peel System combines alpha hydroxy acids with patented retinoid technology to deliver powerful skin resurfacing — with noticeably less irritation than traditional retinol peels. At Elite Skin & Body Care in Houston, we use the AlphaRet Professional Peel 30 and 50 to smooth fine lines, even out skin tone, and refine rough texture for a wider range of skin types than most medical peels can accommodate.

Important: Peels should not be performed on pregnant or nursing mothers.

Pre-Peel Application Instructions

  1. Review the Patient Consult & Consent Form.

  2. For optimum results, skin may be acclimated to Skinbetter Science skincare products one to two weeks prior to your first peel treatment. Consult with your provider to determine which products are suitable for you.

  3. Avoid clay masks, scrubs, or exfoliators that contain AHAs (glycolic and lactic acid) and BHAs (salicylic acid) for at least 48 hours prior to each peel treatment.

  4. Do not use AlphaRet products, Retin-A, or any other Vitamin A product — including anything containing a retinoid or retinol — for at least 48 hours prior to each peel treatment.

  5. Do not use self-tanning agents for at least 48 hours prior to each peel treatment.

  6. If you have a history of cold sores, fever blisters, or herpes, the AlphaRet Professional Peel should not be performed if these are present anywhere on your face prior to treatment. If you are prone to or have a history of cold sores or fever blisters, speak to your provider as they may prescribe antiviral medications prior to treatment.

  7. The AlphaRet Professional Peel should not be performed on sunburned or windburned skin.

  8. Do not have facial hair waxed/lasered for 48 hours prior to each peel treatment. Avoid facial hair shaving for 8 hours before each peel treatment.

  9. If you have recently undergone any other facial treatment procedures — such as microdermabrasion, microneedling, dermaplaning, laser resurfacing, chemical peels, botulinum toxin, dermal fillers, or facial plastic surgery — skin must be completely healed and normalized prior to receiving an AlphaRet Professional Peel.

Please talk to your provider if you've had any recent procedures to confirm suitability.

Post-Peel Application Instructions

  1. Generally, non-comedogenic (non-pore clogging) makeup may be applied after each AlphaRet Professional Peel treatment.

  2. Avoid exercise (sweating) for at least a few hours after each peel treatment.

  3. Avoid direct sun exposure; wear protective clothing (a wide-brimmed hat) and use a mineral sunscreen containing titanium dioxide and/or zinc oxide with SPF 30 or higher, daily.

  4. Do not use retinoid- or retinol-containing products such as Tretinoin, AlphaRet Overnight Cream, or other Vitamin A derivatives for 5 days after an AlphaRet Professional Peel, unless otherwise directed by your provider.

  5. Do not use other potentially irritating ingredients such as harsh exfoliating products that contain AHAs (glycolic and lactic acids) or BHAs (salicylic acid) for 5 days after the peel, unless otherwise directed.

  6. If irritation occurs, stop use of products until the skin has normalized.

  7. Facial hair should not be waxed for 48 hours after an AlphaRet Professional Peel. You may resume facial shaving the day after each peel treatment or when the skin has normalized.

  8. Avoid heat sources such as steam, saunas, and professional or home hairdryers for 8 hours following treatment.

Why the AlphaRet Peel Works

The AlphaRet Peel's unique technology delivers the benefits of a retinoid — smoothing fine lines, fading hyperpigmentation, and refining texture — with much better tolerability than a traditional retinoid peel. This makes it suitable for a wider range of skin types and sensitivities.

For best results, ask your provider about pairing your peel with complementary services. Many of our clients combine their AlphaRet Peel with monthly HydraFacial® treatments between peel series for continuous hydration and tone improvement.
